For many people, and in particular teenagers, Valentines Day is a huge thing, I remember it well, how many cards did you get, who from and what are you going to do on Valentines night?

However, for the single teenage girl, or the single parent for that matter, the pressure of being alone can be unbearable. So if you or your teenager is in this situation, here is what to do.

First and foremost, send yourself a card (I do this every year). I remember that dating myself and loving myself is vital before I can be in a relationship with another. So each year I remind myself of how great and lovable I am.

Ask yourself what the perfect date would be. Really think about it. Where would you be and what would you be doing? Is there any way you can plan something like that now -- can you sit in front of a movie with your favourite drink and nibbles? Can you go off and do something that is wild and exciting? What can you do that is a celebration of how you can date yourself?

Buy yourself a present, something you love that no one would buy, be it small or big, treat yourself.

Spend time alone just thinking, listening to music, make a mental count in your head of all the things that make you great and all the reasons you love yourself.

At the end of the date, send yourself a thank you card, telling yourself how much you enjoyed your date and look forward to the next one.

And if you and your teen are both single, then how about going out on a date together, no it's not mad, it's a great idea, remember you are the role model and if your teenager sees you happy and loving yourself, then they are more likely to follow suit. It could be the best Valentines Day you will have.
