Single Dad's Health Tip

From carpools to coaching, Dads are exposed to lots of germs every day. If you find yourself getting sick often, look for a multi-symptom cold and flu medication with both day and night formulations.

AT&T’s It Can Wait Campaign

AT&T’s latest commuter survey discovered that while most adults recognize the dangers of texting while driving, almost half of them still do it (49%). More so than teens (43%)! What once was considered more of a generational problem among teens, considering they send 5 times more text messages than adults, is really a much bigger issue for adults. In fact, 40% of adults even call it a “habit.”

Sniffle Solutions: Expert Q A

What happens to medicine when it expires?

By Dr. Elaine D. Mackowiak for Sniffle Solutions

While medications may not spoil like a gallon of milk, the expiration date on the label is just as important -- if not more important. After the date passes, cold, flu, allergy and other medications may lose their potency or become weak and ineffective. While most likely the drug is not dangerous, it’s best to always dispose of any drugs once they reach their expiration date.

Keep in mind too that the expiration date is based on proper storage of the drug. If, for instance, you don’t always tightly replace the cap after every use or you keep it in a steamy bathroom, exposure to moisture in the air may cause the medication to deteriorate more quickly. Check the package insert that comes with your drug for information on proper storage. If you can’t find storage information there, talk with your pharmacist or check the drug manufacturer’s website for additional help.
