In today's world we are almost to the point where we are always connected 24 hours a day. And over the next 5 years we are only going to get even more connect. With the Apple iPad, and soon the Google Chrome OS later this year.
The Apple iPad that was just introduced this last month, and it takes the tablet concept to a whole new level. The iPad takes the lessons learned from the iPhone and the iPod Touch and applying them to the iPad tablet.
The Chrome OS by Google is an Operating System that is very small however it operates in the cloud so everything you do is accessible whenever you log into a Chrome OS Powered PC.
See that smartphone your holding? Oh you don't have a smartphone? Well in the next five years you will need to have one. With geolocation to Twitter to updating your Facebook on the go. To typing out this article from my phone with the GDoc app by Wildarts on my G1 by HTC.
The world is getting to be more and more connected every year. And as we get more connected the world as we know it is getting smaller. The Question is, is it a good thing, or is it something that we should be having real conversations about? As a Parent, being connected with your Kids is a good thing, it allows you to have a virtual eye on them even when they aren't at the house.
However being always connected can be a double edged sword. I am a firm believer in moderation is all things. And being connected is something that should be done in moderation. Which is going to be even harder to do as Computers start to be hosted in the Cloud. I have talked about this before, and it will be a topic that will be coming up again later this year as Google releases the Chrome OS at some point this year.
Being connected is a reality that is becoming a bigger challenge for Parents with each Technological innovation. How can a Parent always know what their kids are up to, and how can a Single Parent protect their kids from the dark side of the Internet Cloud. Well, that is a good question, that you as a Parent will need to answer. I can't and don't know what your particular situation is, and I could only give you a few general Suggestions. Such as I did with my 1st Article here on SingleDad.com back in May of Last year, Called The Single Parent vs. The PC (Round 1).
Being connected is something that will have it's challenges, however over all I view it in general as a good thing. The Internet has more Positive than Negative, and is a great tool. I think the fact we Live in the Future is awesome. However as it is with most things in today's world, use caution, the floor is slippery when wet.
