Men’s Grooming Guide on SingleDad: V-I Face Peel

Living in Southern California, my skin has had many years exposed to the sun and the common outdoor elements void of protection like sunscreen. This past month, I was invited to try a Face peel from Staci Christie of StaciCristie Skin Care, a licensed Medical Aesthetician in Encinitas California (Link).

Staci educated me on the long-term wear and tear that I had caused over the years to my skin. Like most men, I didn’t pay much attention to skin care and often overlooked it. As I got older, I started to see how the sun exposure had aged my skin with a variety of pigments like sunspots and blemishes on my face. So I decided to give it a try so I can tell other Dads my age that you don’t have to lose your "Manliness" or look "Girly" in order to take care of your facial skin. The following paragraphs is my review and report about the V-1 Skin Peel process

The Interview

The V-I Face peel is about a One- Hour process. I was certainly in no rush when it came to spending time with Staci. She is smart, beautiful, and very attentive to her work. I was given a full rundown on the procedure along with a disclosure I had to sign letting me know about the possible side effects or reactions to the treatment. This treatment causes temporary redness and your skin after the treatment must stay out of direct sunlight for at least a week.

The Treatment

As I sat on a nice comfortable reclining chair, Staci applied the V-I treatment to my neck and face. The lotion is clear and odorless. There was a slight tingling sensation, but no pain at all. The whole application took about 30 – 45 minutes as I sat and chatted it up with Staci. The next stage of my treatment was just getting another rundown on what to expect in the coming days:

• On the third day, expect peeling
• Apply the Post Peeling Lotion and SPF Lotion provided by Staci
• Stay out of the direct sun for a week
• No Shaving for a week
• Call Staci for updates

My Peeling

My peeling process was gradual and everybody peels differently. In my experience, I saw very few flakes. However, by the fourth day I was flaking like potato chips off my face. This wasnt painful, just an inconvienence of having to peel excess skin off my face during my day. I was warned not to "pull off" any flakes andonly trim down the flakes coming off my face. As always, I was only a phone call away and had Staci remind me that I was almost done with the rest of the treatment.

My only hiccup with this process was that I had to attend a party the week I was "flaking". I decided to get dressed up for an evening dinner and forgot about the state of my sensitive skin. My problem stemmed from getting ready for the dinner party. You see, my neck and face are basically raw and regenerating new skin cells. This skin is highly sensitive and when I got out of my shower and dried off, I sprayed cologne on my neck…. Cologne is about 99.9% Alcohol. Yes, it hurt. Lesson learned. It took about 2 days for the redness to die down and it looked like I had a sunburned neck. Guys, word of the wise, do not shave or place any cologne around your treatment area for at least a week after your treatment.

My Summary

Overall, this was a great experience. I recommend the V-I treatment for those Men who have neglected their skin care and need to get rid of some of those unsightly sunspots. Yes, it takes a week to fully see the results, however, it took me years to mistreat my facial skin; so be patient. The reward is that this treatment has lasting results.
