Introduction (Summary)

SingleDad teaches you the best food recipes. Learn How To Make the BEST French Fries for you and your family

Necessary Things:

  • This SingleDad recipe calls for 5 to 7 Large Idaho ( Ida- Who?) Potatoes
  • I prefer Canola Oil, but many people like the sweetness of Peanut Oil
  • When you see the recipe, you will a little time to "soak" the potatoes.. We call this blanching the spuds
  • A fry pan
  • Ketchup... Otherwise known as Catch- up!

Step 1:

This recipe is an American Family Classic and what better way to show your kids that you know how to "Cook Like a Dad" than making some Homemade French Fries. if you can afford a little time to soak the potatoes, I assure you'll have your kids wanting your fries any day over Mickey D's..

Step 2:

Step 2 is the Prep Time: Cut your desired number of potatoes into quarter inch thick slices. You need a thick cut fry in order for this to work. Once you are done slicing the fries, soak them in a bowl of cool water for about 5 to 6 hours, ( that's right, hours). This is called blanching, and you want your taters to soak that water up. After the time has elapsed, take fries out and pat dry...

Step 3:

Next, Pour your oil into a large, deep, fry pan. Make sure your oil is appox 3 inches deep in the pan and heat your oil to 300 degrees, (Yes, get a deep fryer thermo and keep the heat at 300)

Step 4:

Next, add your fries into pan for their "first soak" and make sure not to over stack these little gems. You want them to get "lightly yellowy" or approx 3- 4 minutes in the oil. Remove them out of the pan to air dry and make sure to set them on some napkins or paper towels to dry. this might take an hour for this to happen, but trust me; You will be famous in your family!

Step 5:

Go back and reheat the oil to 375 this time and place the fries back into the pan for their final cooking. Keep an eye on the frying because they will get golden brown in 2 minutes. Remove them again into some napkins and sprinkle your salt while they are cooling. Add kids, ketchup and that sound that you make when you are biting into a hot fry and cooling in your mouth at the same time... enjoy!
