Summer is over…

Summer has ended and school is back in session at my
household. My two younger children are getting their body clocks adjusted to
the school schedule and I am losing sleep just trying to keep everybody
organized for school drop offs and pick ups. Balancing Career, School schedules
and all the other responsibilities that come along with being a father of three
is a little exhausting at times.

However, one of my children is making a big change in her life. If you remember from my last post, I am
soon to lose my oldest daughter to college and I will be driving out with her
mom to move her into her college dorm. This university is over 8 hours away
from my home and I am feeling a bit emotional. I assume that these feelings are
normal for any parent who sees their child grow up in front of their eyes and
realizes that the next chapter is about to begin… and I want a re-run!

Like all Dads, I have made my checklist on making sure my
daughter is going to be safe in her new surroundings. As part of the Safe and Secure Safety Squad, my family
and daughter will be safe this fall with a variety of Master Lock security products:

Portable Safe

Dorm Room, Portable Safe

Bike Lock

Bike Lock and Cable Combo

I know my daughter is ready. She has worked hard in school and remains a determined and
focused woman who wants to study Biology at UC Davis. I am very confident that
she will do well at whatever she sets her mind to. I am proud of her; it’s just
that it is hard for me to imagine that our father /daughter relationship is
about to change. I recently had one of those “Ah-Hah!” moments that made me realize that my new
relationship was about go “long distance”. During our family vacation this past
month, my daughter had slipped a few comments to me about upcoming holidays and
she mentioned where she wanted to spend Christmas this year…

Like any parent, I had assumed that this Christmas was going
to be like the past 18 holidays with her…as a family. Ahhh, not so fast.
Apparently, this next stage of fatherhood for me is going to be about booking
in advance. Like a person trying to book an airline ticket online, I’m in hopes
of getting a good reservation for a fast moving young woman who is going to be
sharing her life with college roommates and exploring the new world during
school breaks. It appears that this Christmas is already booked and I am left
feeling like I’m holding a “Stand By” ticket.

Oh well, I am thankful I have two other kids and a girlfriend
with her daughter to go through these fun stages of fatherhood and parenting.
Stay tuned on how the holidays turn out. For now, it’s all about Fall Family
Safety
and getting my daughter off to college safely while balancing Family,
Career and Health.
