In the wake of the Sandy Hook Tragedy, Home and School security has reached an all time high for parents with school children. Master Lock, Live Secure Safety Squad Blog from RJ Jaramillo talks about home safety.

Home and School Security

In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, my family security
has never been more important to me. As a Single Parent, I worry about my
children every day when I am at work. This past year has been tough on a lot of
families like mine; I work two full-time jobs, work late, and worry about my
children while I’m away.

Despite my worries, I have the confidence that my children
are safe because I have Master Lock security products to help me with my daily
life. My family and I practice good safety habits and our house has a variety
of Master Lock products that give me
the piece of mind that I need during these times.

school

For example, my two daughters have to walk home after school
each day. They always walk home from school together and send me a text when I
am at work to let me know that they are home safe. We use the Master Lock, Select Access Key Storage
unit. Our house key is stored safely in the lock; and when my daughters arrive
home from school, they head to the back yard where they access the combination
lock secured to the back door and open the lock that holds the key. Once they are in the house; they put the
key back into the Master Select Access
Lock
and send me a text…It’s nice to know as a parent, that your children
are home safe from school each and every day.

The New Year

As the New Year begins, so does my new years resolutions.
Part of my new resolutions is to practice more security procedures with my
family
. I think it is important as a Parent to deliver the right message about
security, without promoting fear.

My role as a Father is to instill confidence in my children
and their ability to act calmly under pressure. My 17-year old son is in High
School and has a different school schedule than my two younger daughters. Part
of our security procedures are to make sure that he knows that he is my
emergency back-up when it comes to watching his sisters if I become delayed at
work and there is an emergency at home.

My son has duplicate copies of all health insurance cards,
my ID and a notarized letter from me with his permission to take my daughters
to the hospital if such an event requires immediate medical attention. This
simple, but important conversation is necessary for a Single Parent like me to
make sure that my family is prepared. My son knows his role as the leader if I am
not around and my family and I have all talked with everyone about certain
situations that would cause my son to act on my behalf. Luckily, we have not
had a situation that would cause my son to act, however, I am glad we have this
procedure in place.

Piece of Mind with
Master Lock

In summary, I want to send the right message to my children
about having family security in the world that we live in today. As a Parent, I
let my children know that Americans do not live their lives in fear; we live
our lives with freedom. It is important to teach our children the difference
between being prepared for emergencies and not living in fear in America. I am
thankful for my Master Lock Security
products and the piece of mind it brings to my family.
