Office Romance, One Night Stand, How Bad is This?

Question:

My name
is Charles, from Los Gatos, CA…I am a Single Dad divorced a little more than a
year ago and have not been out on any dates since before I was married. Last
weekend, I had a one-night stand with a younger colleague of mine. I know it
was the ‘heat of the moment’ kind of thing, but I still feel bad about what
happened. I got to work along side this woman and I just don’t know what to
say. How bad is this?

fling

Answer:

If you’re not your boss, and she’s not your boss; you
haven’t done anything wrong… yet. Flirting is tricky, but dating your coworkers
is even trickier. There are no clean breaks in an office romance, and your
personal life will almost certainly be exposed, to some degree, to everybody
you work with. It just depends on how you are going to handle it in the future.
There’s a saying, "once you had a taste, there’s no going back…" and I hope
this is not our case because the future risks and drama do not look in your
favor, (and the job market is tough enough, so why risk it again?)

If you
want to end it, be mature about it. If it was just a one-time heat of the moment kinda thing, and your not trying to peruse
anything more with this person, don’t lie and say you’ll call. Go instead with
a simple, sincere, "I had a totally awesome time with you" and that’s it. The
key is to keep it short and sweet…just like your fling. Get it?

Good Luck Chuck!
