Ask SingleDad: The
Do’s and Don’ts on Holiday Dating

As a Divorced Dad, I think I have the most fun and
excitement dating around the holidays. There seems to be a lot more available
women
this time of year on Match.com and I have more free time to date. I am
35, with one 5-year old daughter and Internet dating with no intentions on
settling down any time soon.

So what is your advice about dating this time of year?

-Stan, Nashville TN

Well Stan,

The holidays do seem to bring out the best in all of us. As
far as Single Parent Dating advice, let me give you my take on the Do’s and
Don’t’s on Holiday Hookups:

Don’t: Do not mislead your intentions with a date. If you re
going out to enjoy another woman’s company, make sure you have communicated
your intentions about multiple dating. Just like you,
there are women who are on the "same page" when it comes to serial dating and
they are not looking to settle down either. Honesty is refreshing these days
and you might actually have more fun with the ones that can relate to your same
social plans.

Do: Find a
social activity that you both have a common interest and make that your first
date. Let’s say you both like Yoga. Taking a class together and spending some
time after the activity and sharing the experience gives you something
different to talk about other than small talk. Women appreciate an original
idea and finding something to do other than happy hour and coffee meet up puts
you ahead of the crowd of available men.

One other note: Holidays are a fun time to date as a Single
Parent, but not everyone has the same experience. Single Parent Dating is
different and that is why it is important to recognize that not everyone is on
the same page when it comes to holidays and dating. Some people have a hard
time being divorced and not having their children or a stable relationship with
them over the holidays. Be conscious of this fact and treat your date with
respect and understanding.
