Single Mom for advice on dating a man that’s in a relationship with someone
else.

Dear Single Dad,

Hi my name is Carol. I am a single mom with a 16-year-old
daughter. I recently started dating again, but the situation is very
complicated. The man I am dating has a girlfriend… Yes I know a girlfriend.
Usually I would never go for a man that has a girlfriend, but he is telling me
that he is planning on leaving her. I come to you for advice. I’m wondering if
I should keep investing my time in him or if I should just give up.

Sincerely,

Confused Carol

Well you are in a very sticky situation. The man you are
with is involved with someone else. There’s lots of factors on how that is a
very bad idea. Let me start by telling you that if you are dating someone that
is dating someone else then that means they cheated on whomever they may be
with. Not to say that once a cheater, always a cheater but it’s more likely for
him to cheat on you since he did cheat on his girlfriend.

Trust

Yes he might say he will not cheat on
you like he did his current girlfriend, but can you really trust him? I mean he
did cheat on his girlfriend for you. I can’t speak for him but he did cheat on
his current girlfriend. One thing that can make things complicated is if he has
any kids with his current girlfriend. If he does then that makes trying to date
him harder. You will have to deal with his ex since they have a kid together.

Not loyal

Eventually he will have to tell his girlfriend that he is
leaving her. You have no idea how that will go… Most likely that will not go
that well. She might try to win him back so they can stay together. It’s
honestly not a good idea dating someone in a relationship. Speaking from a past
experience it didn’t end that well for me. He told me that he would break up
with her for me. Unfortunately that never happened… But that was just my past
experience.

Give Him A Chance

Giving him a chance is a great way to start honestly. Give
him a chance to prove to you that he will be loyal to you. Showing him that you trust that he wont cheat on you is a major key to being in a relationship. You will never know if he is going to be
loyal or not. Hopefully he found the one he finally wants to be with. I wish
you guys the best of luck!
